Almonis and Lisore : the characteres
Amélie Sertin Younger sister of Almonis. An idealist, she longs for happiness and freedom, encouraged by her brother. Vulnerable and of an exaggerated sensitivity, she endures with difficulty the strict education imposed on her, and yields to her parent's rules in fear. |
Madame Sertin Mother of Almonis. The wife of an innkeeper, authoritarian and manipulative, she’s got a pronounced taste for money. Descended from a serviceman's family, for which she devotes a disproportionate worship, she exerts a constant pressure on her offspring, with the intention of restoring the tradition of her ancestors. |
Edmé, Baron de Coray Elder brother and guardian of Lisore. He brilliantly manages the family business, coveting its success, which could allow him to join the high society in the capital, or Versailles … He tries to distinguish himself but thinks and acts in the shadows. He likes splendor, but also games of spirit, hunting, and all the activities linked to his rank. |
Nastasie, Baronne de Gourmelan Cousin of Lisore. She lives alone in the manor house of Tillac. She easily adapted to her widowhood and supports Lisore in her refusal of the marriage. Precious, frivolous and excessive, she indulges in the most absurd whims and gossip. She wishes more than anything to earn the admiration of others. |
